Erica Synths Razornator is a new desktop stereo resonator FX, in collaboration with 112dB, featuring five Karplus-Strong-based resonators.

Erica Synths has released several products in collaboration with the Dutch developer 112dB. These include the Steampipe Synthesizer and many desktop FX boxes. This series is now being expanded once again.

After last year’s Xenodrive distortion, the developers are letting the resonators play. Erica Synths has released the Razornator, a stereo resonator FX in collaboration with 112dB.

Erica Synths Razornator

Razornator is a new stereo resonator FX unit with an algorithm developed by Dutch plugin company 112dB.

The Erica Synths Razornator comes in the same compact, sleek aluminum case as other desktop FX in the series (Xenodrive, Nightverb…). Only the content is different, and the faceplate has also been adapted to the new effect.

Razornator features five chromatically tuned resonating stereo delay lines, giving you 10 Karplus-Strong-based resonators. These emulate the resonance of physical objects like bodies of instruments, rooms, and structures.

The five delay lines can be tuned right on the interface. There is a main “shift” parameter and four offset parameters (Pitch 1-4), allowing you to tune them chromatically on the fly. This chromatic tuning capability makes the effect particularly musical.

Unique Resonator Signal Path

The signal path starts with an audio gain stage that boosts signals up to +24dB. The developers say that it can effectively act as an analog overdrive. Then, the Erica Synths Razornator features a low-pass filter with resonance, through which the signal passes.

From here, it passes through five chromatically tuned, delay-based/Karplus-Strong resonators that can be manually tuned. Alternatively, you can also control them with a built-in envelope follower, which makes the effect more dynamic.

After the resonators, the signal is summed and limited by a compressor. In the next step, it’s mixed with the dry signal, passed through a built-in equalizer, and finally sent to the balanced output stage.

Razornator is a stereo processor that can alter the harmonic content of incoming signals in beautiful ways. It envelops the signal with new bodies that give the whole thing a very organic, acoustic-like character.

You can make it subtle to add lovely harmonics and give the sound new life. It’s also possible to go wild and transform a simple single into a strange resonating monster.

The hardware gives you full control over the effect processor and sound with 12 parameters. Save and recall functions for all parameters let you save your favorite settings as presets right in the box.

Connectivity

On the back, you have a power supply input with a dedicated ON/OFF switch, stereo in/out connectivity via two 3.5mm mono sockets, each, a footswitch pedal input for expressive control, 5-pin MIDI in/out, and a USB port.

Plus, you get full MIDI support over all parameters, allowing you to automate them from your hardware gear or DAW.

Erica Synths Raznornator First Impression

Hardware resonators are rare. You’ll find them here and there in Eurorack systems, but seldom in standalone, modern FX boxes. I therefore very much welcome the Razornator, as it breathes new life into the market.

Effects like the Razornator are experimental effects that allow for beautiful, organic signal transformation. Not everyone needs one, that’s for sure. It’s a bit pricey, but a lovely release.

Erica Synths Razornator is available now for 490€ + VAT + shipping. Shipping starts this week, July 3, 2026.
