Bruno is a new drum and percussive Synthesizer plugin for iOS and macOS. This app follows the same colorful design as the Macro synth app. Therefore, my trigger remains the same.
It immediately raised my personal AI red flag, as we’ve seen similar fonts and such very often in recent months. The website layout also raises these concerns. However, I can neither confirm nor deny whether the app was ultimately created with AI.
These days, many new developers use the same UI libraries that you can find in JUICE and other tools. But the layout reminds me somewhat of BLEASS, which is also very colorful.
Amici Instruments Bruno has six selectable drum and percussive voices: kick, snare, hat, clap, tom, and pluck. The lengthy text on the website doesn’t clarify whether you can use 6 voices simultaneously or only one, meaning you have to load 6 plugins to use them all.
Each voice consists of four synthesis engines: analog (sine and triangle, with optional saturation); FM; fold; and Karplus-Strong/modal synthesis-based resonator.
You can tweak each engine independently with four controls. Dedicated volume controls let you layer these engines together.
Voice Shaping
Then, you can shape the sounds of each engine independently with a body peak EQ as well as a traditional filter section. There are eight different types with tweakability options: cutoff, resonance, and more.
The modulation is also per engine. You can have envelopes for the pitch, filter, and volume. Additionally, you have three LFOs per engine that can modulate the cutoff, pitch, and character, with sync, gate, phase, and range controls.
Refinements in Amici Instruments Bruno can be done via a built-in master multi-FX processor for the entire sound. You can work with a compressor, drive (four saturation types), delay (4 types), and 3-band EQ.
Other features are an advanced patch random generator, a waveform scope/spectrum, and preset browsers where you can share your sounds with others.
First Impression
Bruno is colorful and offers a number of customization options. However, better demos should be made, as the current ones are somewhat difficult to get a first impression. It should also clearly state whether all six voices can be used simultaneously.
Amici Instruments Bruno is available now for $4,99 or get it in the bundle with Macro for $7,49. It runs as a standalone and AUv3 plugin on iOS (iPhone/iPad) and macOS.
